Holy Family Choir

Return to Organizations

The Members of the HOLY FAMILY MUSIC AND LITURGY MINISTRY are an active group of parishioners:

1)    who form the 11:00 A.M. adult choir,
2)    some of whom serve as cantors for weekend Masses,
3)    some of whom assist the Pastor in planning music and ritual for worship.

The Choir Ministry requires a commitment to rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 P.M. from September through May and to the 11:00 A.M. Mass on Sunday, the folks who make this commitment find that their active leadership role in the Sunday Liturgy is very rewarding.

This is a relaxed and friendly group: we genuinely enjoy each others company.
Why not give us a try! You will be welcomed with open arms.

And it’s so simple to join us - there are no auditions!

Greetings to Holy Family!  My name is Fred Krieger and I am the new Director of Music.  Numerous people have welcomed me to Lawton, and have made me feel at home in the parish.  I’d like to say a few words about myself and about my aspirations for the music program.

As far back as I can remember, I’ve been interested and involved in church music, having begun piano study in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the age of 8 and then playing piano and organ at church during my high school years.  My formal study of organ and choral music was at Nebraska Wesleyan University and the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford, CT.  Following that, various church positions have taken me to Chicago, Detroit, Connecticut and Texas.  Raised in the Baptist tradition, I was later confirmed and received into the Catholic Church by Adam Cardinal Maida, Archbishop of Detroit.

With regards to music at Holy Family, it is obvious that there has been good musical leadership here in the past.  I hope to build on the strengths of the existing program and will make sure that our musical offerings are always appropriate, dignified and reverent in support of the Liturgies of the Roman Catholic Rite.  We do need to expand the size of the parish adult choir by recruiting some of the excellent singers I can hear out in the congregation at weekend masses.  We also want to develop musical groups for our children and youth.  A men’s “Schola” for Gregorian chant is another possibility as is a traditional boys choir.  Expanding the range of music through the inclusion of brass and string instruments on feasts and solemnities is yet another desire of the music program.

Please join me in bringing to life these new and exciting possibilities…we welcome, invite and encourage your participation in YOUR program!  Further information will be provided over the next several months.  I am convinced that with your help, and the support of our Pastor, Holy Family Parish can have the finest program of liturgical music in this city and among the finest in the Archdiocese!

If you have questions or comments, please call me at the Parish Office:
(580) 536-6351.

God of rhythm and melody, you have blest
your people with voices to sing and instruments to play.
May our hearts and minds, hands and voices, raise
out triumphant song of praise to You.
